Projects

2019 is an exciting year for Sparta! We are working on the strategic renovation of our downtown corridor through the Sparta Downtown Streetscape & Waterline Project. This important initiative includes updates and improvements which will strengthen our infrastructure, support our economic development goals, and benefit our town for generations to come.

Town Improvements

  • Construction of “Welcome to Sparta” signs at the four main entrances to the town
  • Planting of flowers and shrubs in sidewalk container pots each summer
  • Facilitation of a number of store front façade “face lifts” with SRC’s Renovation Grant program
  • Installation of the County Seal at the Court House
  • Participation in community clean-up days in Sparta

Event Planning

  • Hosting of annual Independence Day & Christmas parades
  • Assistance with the annual Blue Ridge Arts Fair at Crouse Park
  • Assistance with the annual Mountain Heritage Day Celebration held on Main Street the 3rd Sat. of September
  • Assistance in the organizational dev. of Arts & Crafts co-op
  • Assistance in the organizational development and capital campaign of the Alleghany Wellness Center
  • Promotion of events that encourage & stimulate local shopping
  • Administrative support for the Team Sparta 2020 project that works on the Master Plan for downtown Sparta
  • Coordination of Main Street Christmas Season decorations
  • Sponsor & Organize the Halloween Trunk N’ Treat event in Crouse Park
  • Assistance in the planning & organization of the Summer Jamboree activities in Sparta

Request for Bids

The SRC is requesting bids for maintenance for our “Welcome to

Sparta” signs. The yearly maintenance would require the following

services:Double ground mulch (once per year)Trimming of shrubbery and flowers (twice per year)Weed control (monthly)Cleanup of debris in and around shrub beds (monthly)
